Happy New Year

26 Jan 2020

So. A whole new decade. I used to be in the habit of writing a blog post on the first of January each year… but as you can see, I’ve failed this year.

That said - time to put some new year’s resolutions out there… as if I don’t, I can’t look back at the end of the year with amazement at all the things I’ve achieved in 2020… or more realistically all the things I meant to do and didn’t.

Like all fortune tellers, best to keep this as vague as possible… but here’s my list…

Take some professional IT certifications…

I’ve always taken these with a pinch of salt. It’s always felt (to me at least) that so much of IT is learning on the job as you do things but as 2020 dawns it feels like it’s time to actually get a cert or two. This involves both organisation and discipline… so really all bets are off…

Read more books

I don’t think I read for pleasure anymore. And I miss it. I’m going to try for a book a month (or thereabouts) in 2020 and see how I get on.

Actually fix one of my broken MZ motorcycles…

I have two of my own to fix and two that belong to the missus. Surely fixing one in 2020 is possible.

Crack on with my Citroen Dyane restoration.

I’ve done nothing since the car arrived in London one sunny day in February last year.

Blog more…

I really should be able to manage a post a month about something… (yes this post counts!)

Take more exercise…

Our first new year cliche! I’m not sure what that should look like though. Perhaps…cycle to work at least once a week, and get back into the habit of swimming regularly again. I attempted to do couch to 5k in 2019, which got no further than downloading the app… which was pretty strenuous!

Spend less time on the socials.

Twitter can be a miserable place these days and I waste too much time on instagram… time that could be spent doing more productive things.

Finally finish the capital ring walk!

I’ve got sections one, three, four, six and nine left to do…

And that might have to do for now. See you in December (or even January 2021) when we can take a look at how well I did…
